Why are mangroves in danger? Mangroves are in danger because of people. People throw trash into the mangroves; people cut mangroves down for more buildings, people think mangroves are useless plants. They are very important to our island because they hold up our islands coastline. Mangroves photosynthesize so they make oxygen for us. Mangroves are a nursery for baby animals. Why is it important to have mangrove in healthy condition? Growing mangroves in healthy condition is very important because they’re a nursery to animals. When mangroves die the juvenile animals die because they lose the safe home of mangroves. A cycle of doom begins because there will be no new generation of fish to grow up in this ecosystem. Well, I hope you make the right decision and take care of mangroves because they are very important.

Mangrove Mitigation Key West Florida 2013 The road project on North Roosevelt Blvd. will cause 2.3 acres of mangroves to be removed. The mangroves will be moved to make room for a new sidewalk to be built. These mangroves have to be replanted somewhere else. The state decided the mangroves should be planted on South Roosevelt Blvd. The Water near South Roosevelt Blvd. was originally 15 feet, too deep for mangroves. The bottom had to be raised to 3 feet so that the mangroves could be replanted. (Information gathered in an interview with Michael’s Papa, Edward Toppino.)
